Today we took part in stations about water and where it comes from. One thing that I learned that I did not know before was that the water we have today is the same water that our ancestors had and used. When I first learned this, I was a bit grossed out. However, once I was further informed about the water cleansing system, I felt a lot better about it. The water that we drink from comes from wells and/or groundwater sources. When water goes into the ground, it is purified by the minerals that it passes through going down. The water held beneath us is called an aquifer. Something else I learned about was wells. Since I live on a farm, I do not get water from the city system. Instead, I get my water from a well. I learned about how if you have a well, you must make sure to get annual checkups for it. I did not know this about wells but I am sure my mother takes care of this by scheduling the checkups. These checkups are to ensure everything is working properly and the minerals in the water are balanced properly. I also learned about how important maintaining a good oxygen level is for water. In the water testing station, I learned about how if there is not enough oxygen, life cannot thrive. For example, if the oxygen levels in a fish tank are not at the right level, the fish will not be able to survive. I think the knowledge I have gained about water and where it comes from will help me live more deliberately because I will be more aware of the circumstances all around. I think many people in first world countries take having accessible water for granted. However, once one learns more about where it comes from and how it gets to them, they learn to appreciate it much more. Today, I gained new knowledge about water that I did not know about at the beginning of the day. I am more aware of how privileged I am to have good and clean drinking water. With this knowledge, I am able to further live more deliberately in my daily life.

This is the river, vast and strong.

This is the rain, shiny and feeding into the river

These are the trees, tall, detailed, and lining the river.

These are the plants, small and green, rooted next to the trees.

These are the rocks, hard and smooth

This is the river, vast and strong.
